CHAIR Departmental Research Committee -  DR Jonny Peter

Dr Jonny PeterDr Jonny Peter is an Head of the Division of Allergology and Clinical Immunology and a consultant in the Department of Medicine. He is the recipient of a number of awards for medical training, an was awarded the Oxford Nuffield Medical Fellowship in 2012. In 2015 he received an MRC silver award as an outstanding early-career researcher. Current clinical and research interests include: i) point-of-care diagnostics, ii) drug and food additive allergies, and iii) primary immunodeficiency. He is a dedicated teacher and academic.

The Department of Medicine statistical support team includes Kathryn Manning and Wisdom Basera focuses on protocol development and statistical analysis planning, data management, and basic to intermediate statistical analysis.

Statistical Analyst - Mrs Kathryn Manning 

Kathryn ManningKathryn is currently enrolled in the Masters of Public Health (Epidemiology and Biostatistics).  She completed her MSc (Med) in Dietetics in 2014 along with several modules from MPH Epidemiology and biostatics track. 

Kathryn has worked in a variety of roles within clinical dietetics, education and research.  At present, she works as a research coordinator and data analyst in UCT Department of Surgery Transplant unit, and together with Wisdom Basera provides part time statistical support to young emerging researchers in Department of Medicine.  The statistical support focuses on protocol development and statistical analysis planning, data management, and basic to intermediate statistical analysis.

At present, Kathryn is focused on methods and analysis of time-to-event data from two unique South African cohorts: survival outcomes in HIV+ to HIV+ renal transplantation, and risk factors for wheezing illness in a population-based South African birth cohort.

Statistical Analyst - Mr Wisdom Basera

Mr Wisdom BaseraWisdom is currently enrolled in a PhD in Public Health with the Centre for Environmental and Occupational Health Research. He completed his MPH specialising in Biostatistics and Epidemiology in 2013.  He has worked in different research groups including SAFFA, CIDRI, DTHF and CIDER as a Data Manager and Data Analyst. Current projects include developing pesticide exposure methodology and assessing the effects of environmental pesticide exposure on reproductive development in a rural Western Cape cohort of children. He also provides data analysis support for the IMPI-2/CREOLE Clinical Trials under the Mayosi Research Group and young emerging researchers respectively.
